Privacy policy

Last updated 17/10/2026

This policy explains what personal data flight-compensation.co.uk collects, why, and what your rights are under UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and PECR. It is written in plain English. In this policy "we" means the operator of flight-compensation.co.uk.

Short version

  • The flight check and the calculator run in your browser. What you type into them is not sent to us.
  • If you choose to send the claim-interest form or the contact form, we receive the details you type into it. That is the only time we collect personal data from you.
  • We do not set cookies, and we do not use advertising or analytics trackers.
  • We count visits and button clicks in a way that does not identify anyone.
  • We do not sell your data and we do not send it to any airline unless you approve a claim.

Who is responsible for your data

The operator of flight-compensation.co.uk decides how and why your personal data is used, so is the controller under UK GDPR. To contact us about your data, use the contact form on this page.

What we collect, and why

1. The flight check and calculator

Your flight number, date, airports and answers are processed in your browser only, using rules for UK261 and EU261 and a list of airports that is loaded from this website. They are not sent to our servers, to Netlify, or to anyone else when you use the check. We do not look up your flight.

2. The claim-interest form and the contact form

If you send one of these forms, we receive:

  • your email address (required) and your name and message (optional);
  • for the claim-interest form, a short text summary of your flight check: flight number, date, airports, what happened and the result you were shown;
  • a record that you ticked the consent box;
  • technical details that our forms service, Netlify Forms, records automatically with each submission: your IP address, your browser's user agent (the browser and device type) and the page you came from, plus the time it was sent.

We use this to reply to you and, if you ask us to, to look at a claim for you. Our legal basis is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw consent at any time, see "Your rights" below. Providing these details is optional. You can use the rest of the site without sending them.

3. Counting visits and clicks

We use a small first-party counter, built on our own hosting, to see how many people visit and which buttons are used. Each event (for example "page view", "form started" or "result shown") adds one to a daily total for that event name. We do not store your IP address, browser details, cookies, device identifiers or anything you type. The counter does not run if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. Because it does not identify anyone, it is not personal data. If it were, our legal basis would be legitimate interests in understanding how the site is used.

Like any web server, our host receives your IP address when your browser asks for a page, so that it can send the page back. We do not store it with the counts.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We do not set cookies and we do not store anything on your device, so there is no cookie banner. If that changes, we will ask for your consent first, as PECR requires, and update this page.

Who we share data with

  • Netlify, our hosting provider. It serves the website, runs the counter and stores form submissions for us, acting as our processor. Netlify is a US company and may process data outside the UK. Its privacy policy describes the safeguards it uses.
  • Airlines. We do not send your details to an airline unless you have approved a claim.
  • We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We may share data if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep form submissions only for as long as we need them to reply to you and to handle any claim you ask us to start, and then delete them. You can ask us to delete yours sooner at any time. The counter holds daily totals only, with no personal data.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy;
  • correct data that is wrong;
  • delete your data;
  • restrict or stop how we use your data;
  • give you your data in a portable format;
  • stop relying on your consent (withdrawing consent does not affect what we did before).

To use any of these rights, send us a message with the contact form below, using the same email address you used before so we can find your details. We will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. We would like the chance to put things right first.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Form submissions are held by Netlify and are only accessible to us through our account.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
